HLAAKC is led by a steering committee, but it takes a dedicated team of supporters to keep the organization running. If you’re excited about being part of the hearing loss community, we’d love to see you channel that excitement and energy into helping organize and run HLAAKC events with us. Here’s your chance to put your stamp on what HLAAKC is all about! There’s a great deal of pride in pulling off successful events. Join our leadership, so you too can be proud of the service you put into the Hard of Hearing and D/deaf community! Here are some Volunteer FAQs:

What kind of help do you need?

We are looking for volunteers and committee members. The number of volunteers we need is limited only by our imaginations! We are looking for two more steering committee members for the 2016-2017 term.

What are you looking for in a volunteer/committee member?

We’re looking for people who are motivated, willing to work with others and able to accommodate diverse opinions, viewpoints and communication preferences.

What will volunteers do?

We currently have needs for: Social Media Editor/Webmaster, Advocacy for Captioning, Graphic Designer, Hospitality, Greeter, Senior Outreach, and Grant Proposal Writer.  Specific tasks we need help with range from writing blog posts to setting up chairs to talking to theaters about captioning. How much time is required?

It depends on the needs of each subcommittee and what events are scheduled for each month or quarter. As with many things in life, there will be busy seasons and slow seasons. Check with the chair of the subcommittee(s) you’re interested in to learn more about time commitments.

The steering committee meets quarterly, so if you are interested in joining the committee, expect to set aside a couple hours a each quarter to discuss the state of HLAAKC.
