Kept under wraps until it’s recent announcement, Bad Robot Production’s “blood sequel” to 2008’s sleeper hit CLOVERFIELD, 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE takes a similar approach to “classic” monster films, choosing instead to focus on the human element of those movies and focusing on the monsters that lurk among us.
Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is a young woman who awakens from a car wreck and finds herself trapped in an underground bunker belonging to Howard (John Goodman), a survivalist who swears he’s keeping her imprisoned for her own good while the the earth’s surface remains uninhabitable. She begins to question his motives and worry about her own safety after he becomes increasingly unhinged and as evidence begins to mount that he may not be telling the truth about her abduction. Eventually the audience must ask the question: Where’s the bigger threat, underground or above?
