Guest Speaker: Steven Gordon
Date: Wednesday, October 21, 2015
Time: 8 p.m. – 9 p.m. Eastern Time
Join us this Wednesday for a free captioned webinar featuring Steven Gordon, who will be presenting Equal Access to Health Care Services for Individuals with Disabilities. This webinar will not be recorded; however, Mr. Gordon’s PowerPoint presentation will be available on the HLAA website.
Steven Gordon is the Coordinator for Civil Rights Enforcement for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia and many of his recent cases come under the Department of Justice’s Barrier-Free Health Care Initiative. Through the Barrier-Free Health Care Initiative, the United States Attorney’s Offices have targeted their enforcement efforts on a critical area for individuals with disabilities – access to medical services and facilities. The Barrier-Free Health Care Initiative includes effective communication for people who are deaf or have hearing loss, physical access to medical care for people with mobility disabilities, and equal access to treatment for people who have HIV/AIDS.
During this presentation, Mr. Gordon will discuss the legal principles under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that are applicable in health care settings, the Department of Justice’s Barrier-Free Health Care Initiative, and recent cases that have settled under this initiative.
